20 August 2013: The Least Developed Countries Expert Group (LEG) Regional Training Workshop on Adaptation for Asian LDCs took place in Siem Reap, Cambodia, from 20-24 August 2013. Governments from Asian Least Developed Countries (LDCs) are receiving ongoing support for their National Adaptation Plan (NAP) process from the LEG.
The event provided an opportunity to introduce the NAP process and establish a long-term NAP process at the national level by assisting in the formation of national guidelines and strategies. This was also a chance for country representatives to comprehensively review available information on impacts, vulnerability and adaptation requirements, and analyse capacity needs and gaps. Further potential technical and financial support for the NAP process was also discussed.
Government representatives from Ministries of Environment, Finance, Disaster Management, Agriculture, Irrigation, Agriculture and Planning amongst other ministries and departments were present - from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Nepal, Timor Leste and Yemen. The delegates met national and international experts from the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the Global Environment Facility (The GEF), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), as well as other organizations including the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), the Southeast Asia START Regional Center, and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ)
