LEG: Advancing National Adaptation Plans in Africa

29 July 2013: The National Adaptation Plan (NAP) process in Africa is benefiting from the significant support of the Least Developed Countries Expert Group (LEG). A comprehensive training and capacity-building programme is underway to develop technical skills and enhance experience sharing.

The sessions got underway in a LEG Regional Training Workshop on Adaptation for African Anglophone LDCs on 29 July-2 August 2013 in Kigali, Rwanda.

Participants from Angola, The Gambia, Liberia, Eritrea, Haiti, Malawi, Ethiopia, Lesotho, Mozambique, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sudan Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia met with regional and international experts from the GEF, The Asian Development Bank (ADB), Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammernarbeit (GIZ), the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

This was a key opportunity to introduce new approaches, share best practices and lessons learned, and to promote regional and international synergies. These workshops will build on the experiences from the regional training workshops on implementation of NAPAs that were conducted by the LEG during 2009–2010.
